The best laid plans....

Never again will I say, "Well, at least it can't get any worse" because, of course, it always can:  Our trip to Ohio didn't go nearly as I had hoped.

We left Friday night from Jackson, and drove about 5 hours until we made it to Louisville.  Grayson did absolutely awesome on the drive...he slept the whole time!  We checked into the hotel, got Grayson to sleep, and then headed to bed.  As we laid down, David and I both had upset stomachs, but we didn't reall think much of it.  About 3 hours later, David was shaking so bad in the bed that he woke me up--he made it to the bathroom to take a hot shower, hoping that would help him feel better.  It didn't.  Instead, he got sick....which continued for the next 24 hours.  I was able to fall back asleep, but awoke with horrible body aches just a short time later.  I also went to the bathroom to take a hot shower in hopes of feeling better, and I too ended up getting sick.  It was an absolute nightmare.  Thank goodness Grayson never got sick, or I would have absolutely lost my mind.

By about 10:00am or so, I was starting to feel better, but David wasn't.  We decided to drive the rest of our trip (about 3 hours or so), and see how things were going once we made it to the hotel.  The trip ended up taking much longer than it should have, due to having to pull over several times so David could get sick.  Again, thankfully, Grayson did awesome with the drive.  We made it to our hotel, and David crawled into bed.  I was determined to go visit with my family, so I took a shower, got Grayson ready, and headed to my Aunt and Uncle's house.  I was able to keep some crackers and 7-Up down on the way, and, other than feeling a little light-headed, I was feeling pretty much back to normal.

What a great visit Grayson and I had with the Scott side of the family!  I didn't get nearly as many pictures as I wanted to--but, Grayson was able to meet his Great Grandparents; Great Aunts: Barb, Shirley, and Bev; Great Uncle Mike; and 2nd cousins: Chelsea, Grace, Shawn, and Kelly!  He loved all of the attention (of course):
Grandpa Scott and Grayson

Grayson tried to pull the runner off the table!

Aunt Shirley gave Grayson "Pat the Bunny" which was my favorite book as a kid.

Kelly surprised Grayson by making the trip home to see him.
He thanked her by throwing up on her.

Grayson was a big fan of Grandma Sweetheart.  :)

After our visit, Grayson and I headed back to the hotel, picked up David, and drove straight to the Urgent Care center.  The doctor gave him a shot and a prescription for phenergan.  We had to drive all over town to find a pharmacy that was open at 7:00pm on a Saturday night, but we finally did.  Needless to say, the 3 of us were in bed asleep by 8:30pm that night.  :)

We woke up Sunday morning, and, thankfully, David was feeling better.  He still wasn't at 100%, but he had his appetite back, and he had more energy than the day before.  We headed to my hometown around lunch time, and spent some time exploring.  I showed David the 2 houses I grew up in, where I went to school, my old church, and some other sights.  We ate lunch at the local restaurant (yes, there is only 1 in town), and then headed to the Planks.

We had a great visit with the Planks.  Grayson loved seeing his Great Grandparents again!

After we left my grandparents, we explored West Liberty a little more, and then headed to my Aunt Shirley's house.  Since David hadn't been able to meet any of the Scott family on Saturday, we had a get-together Sunday  night.  David loved getting to meet everyone, and, of course, Grayson had a blast, too!

Unfortunately, while we were driving back to our hotel that night, David called his mom and found out that she had been sick all day.  Pam was spending the weekend at our house in Memphis watching Cordi and Bailey, and ended up spending the whole time in bed, miserable.  David and I immediately decided that we needed to head back home Monday morning, instead of staying another day, as we had planned. Family is just more important!

We are THRILLED that we got to see my family, and I had a great time showing David and Grayson around the areas where I grew up.  I have been looking forward to this trip for months and months, and, although things didn't turn out like I had figured they would, it was still so wonderful to spend a few short days with those people who are most important to me.  Hopefully, we will get to go back for another visit this summer!

Oh, and Grayson just did AWESOME on the trip.  He slept through the night every night in the hotels (I was afraid he wouldn't since his schedule was so off), and he traveled SOOOOOO WELL in the truck!  He only got fussy when we were about 20 minutes outside of Jackson, but I think, by that point, he was just done with spending so much time in his car seat.  I climbed in the back, sat next to him, and he was laughing the rest of the way to my parents' house.

I will leave you with some pictures of Grayson that I took last week before we left to head out of town.  He is definitely a riot!
He came home from daycare one day with his hair sticking up all crazy-like!

Check out the big boy!

He is soooo over Mommy taking pictures.  :)

As always, thank you for checking in on us!  We love you all so much!

We are headed to Ohio!!!

We are leaving tonight for the Buckeye State, and we are soooooooooooooooooooo excited!!!

Unfortunately, it appears that Mother Nature decided to dump some snow on the area:
There is good news, though!  The bad part of the weather is north of where we will be stoppping tonight, and the temperatures will be well above freezing tomorrow, so that means we run almost no risk of ending up hitting any of the bad weather.  YAY!

I will definitely be updating while on our trip.  I can't wait to see my family!!!  :)

Monday, February 21, 2011

We have had a pretty uneventful couple of days in the Bledsoe house.  We are all still recovering from the "funk" that has been present in our home for the past several weeks, so we tried to take it easy as much as we could.   But, just because we took it easy doesn't mean we didn't have any fun!  :)

Grayson got a new bathtub, since he has outgrown his baby tub.  I think he likes his ducky!

He continues to grow up so fast!  Tonight, when I got home from work, we all played in the TV room upstairs.  Grayson sat by himself for over 30 minutes, playing with his basketball game.  He also scooted all over the floor on his belly--he is going to be crawling soon, and we are certainly not ready for that!  I think that watching the other kids at daycare is making him really want to go go go !  :)

It's a quick post tonight--I need to get to making dinner.  Thanks for checking in on us, as always.  We love you all!

WHAT'S THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU HEAR.... Love and Romance... my hubby.
Music... iPod
School... finally graudated!
Politics... Drama
The internet... Time-Waster

Okay, back to my random thoughts:
  • I heard something on the radio yesterday that surprised me: The average length a man and a woman are together before they get engaged is 3 years.  I heard that, and then I realized, David and I haven't even known each other for 3 years!!!  I have always realized that we have definitely had a whirlwind romance....I just didn't realize that it was a quick as it was!  :)
We met on April 19, 2008, but really didn't get to hang out and know each other until a week later at my birthday party:

We dated for about 9 months or so, and were engaged on March 7, 2009.

We planned our dream wedding for October 17, 2009:

A short 6 weeks later, in November 2009, we became pregnant with our first child:

And we welcomed Grayson Emmit into the world on August 12, 2010:

  • Grayson seems to really be enjoying daycare, which David and I are thrilled about.  He stayed home from school on Tuesday because he wasn't feeling well after his flu shot on Monday.  When I took him back to school yesterday, he smiled and smiled--I could tell he was excited to see everyone!  And, his teachers are just GREAT.  I love love love that he is in such good hands during the day, and we are so blessed to have found FICCC!
  • We have finally gotten into a bit of a routine each night, where David, Grayson, and I can all sit down and eat dinner together.  Usually, David and I try to find time to eat between loving on Grayson and getting him ready to bed.  But, we decided that we wanted to try to have all of us spend some together time around the dinner table, especially because it was something that we had both done as children.  Grayson has been sitting in his high chair, eating his baby food or his MumMums and playing with his pacifier.  It's been sooooooooooooooooooooo nice to have some quiet time as a family!  :)
  • Speaking of Grayson and eating, the doctor told us to go ahead and start feeding him 2nd step foods--I am so excited for him to expand what he can eat!  I went to the store on Tuesday evening, and I picked up yogurt, mac and cheese, fruit and oatmeal blends, and some meats!  Dr. Catherine also said that, once he gets proficient at his pincer grasp, then he will be able to eat the same foods we do!  He will be so happy to be able to eat table food--he always tries to grab everything off our plates!
  • We are gearing up for our trip to Ohio at the end of the month--I couldn't be more excited!!!  As it gets closer, I start thinking more and more about how long it's been since I have been back in my hometown.  I can't wait!  :)
  • David and I have some big plans in the works (that I don't want to talk about right now in fear of jinxing us), and we have been having some pretty serious conversations lately.  It's all good news, I promise!  Anyway, all of these talks have had me wondering: When did I become a grown-up?  I just stop and think sometimes, "Wow, I'm a wife.  And a MOM.  And, I have a big-girl job!  When did this happen?!"  I think it's hit me especially hard this winter because I am not in school for the first time in almost 5 years.  School has been all I have known for so long, and it has a way of making you feel like you're not in the "real world" yet, even when you work at the same time.  Now that I'm not in school, I don't have that shelter anymore!
Well, I guess that's all for now.  I will do my best to get some new pictures of Grayson on here soon.  He is such a fun kid, and I spend most of my nights loving on him...and I forget to take pictures!  As always, thanks for checking in on us.  We love you all!

My sweet Valentine

Grayson had his 6 month check-up with Dr. Catherine today, and it was great!  David picked him up from daycare, and I met them both at the office.  Grayson was smiling and laughing when we arrived, and he even gave Dr. Catherine a Valentine sucker!  :)

Dr. Catherine once again called Grayson a rockstar, to which he smiled and showed off a little more.  He weighed 19lbs 9oz (75th to 90th percentile) and measured 28.25 (95th percentile) inches long.  He sat up on command and did an AWESOME baby push-up!  He even waved goodbye as she walked out of the room!  What a little performer!  Unfortunately, Grayson had to get 4 shots today.  He definitely didn't like them, but he was asleep about 5 minutes after the nurse gave them to him.

Tonight, Grayson drank water from a big-boy cup (after he was determined to drink my coke at dinner), jumped on my lap, and snuggled with me before he went to bed.  He was extra tired today (due to taking only 2 short naps), so he went to bed without any fuss.  Before bed, though, he gave Daddy a very special Valentine's card which he signed himself:

It's been a wonderful Valentine's Day in the Bledsoe house!  We hope you all had a wonderful love-filled day, too!  Thanks for checking in on us!

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I have decided to be uber-cheesy and make a list of some of the  reasons that I love my valentine, David.  :)
  • He makes me laugh like no one else can.  Even when I am mad and fighting tears, he has a way of making me smile.  Sometimes it makes me more mad, but, most of the time, it turns my mood completely around.
  • He is the most generous, thoughtful, giving, caring person I know.  I can't even tell you the number of times that he has surprised me with something, "just because."  He gets so much joy out of making others feel loved and appreciated.
  • He loves being a husband and daddy.
  • He is the MOST amazing father!  I don't know of another man who loves his son more than David loves Grayson.  I love to just watch the two of them together--they laugh and smile and just love each other like crazy.  And, he has a way of calming Grayson down like no one esle can.
  • He makes the funniest face when something surprises him.  Just the other night, he was in the living room and he dropped something on the table that made a really loud sound.  His face was priceless!  :)
  • He is such a good friend.
  • He is a family-man.  He loves his Mama like no one else, he is such a good big brother, and he will do anything for anyone in his family.   And, his family is pretty great--so it makes it easy for me to love them, too!  :)
  • He speaks the truth, even when it's hard.  More than anything, I have appreciated the times that he has been honest with me, even when it's something I don't want to hear.
  • We have the same dreams and goals.  I love being able to talk about what we hope for the future, and make a plan for reaching them.
  • He is a walking sound machine!  It's so great.
  • He knows what the right thing to do is, and he does it....even if it's hard.
  • He will often call me, text me, or just come up to me out of the blue and says something sweet.  He doesn't say it for any reason...just because.  And, he always seems to know just the right time that I need to hear it.
  • When it's cold or raining or windy (and sometimes even when it's sunny), he pumps my gas for me.
  • When I was pregnant, he filled every single one of my cravings without complaining...even the wierd ones....even after 9:00pm.
  • He provided me with my dream engagment, wedding, and honeymoon.  I am constantly amazed, when I look back at the last 3 years, that I have been blessed with my Prince Charming.
  • He is so silly!  If you know me at all, you know that I am a super-big, silly dork.  David won't admit it, but we have the same sense of humor.
  • He has made me a better woman.  He has helped me to reach my goal of graduating from graduate school, becoming a mom, and allowing me to work at a job I love.
  • He spends time with my family without complaining...in fact, I think he actually enjoys spending time with my family!
  • He holds my hand in public.
Of course, there are many, many, many more reasons that I love David.  These are just a few of them.  :)

Rough Day, but some sunshine...

**Warning: This is an extremely blunt and honest post.  Please don't take any offense to anything I say, and Please.  No judgement.**

Today has been a rough day for me...

I keep coming across news of friends/relatives/people I know who are pregnant, and, although I am SOOOOOOOO happy for them, I can't help but think about how I should be entering my second trimester with our little one.  In fact, I would have been 13 weeks pregnant this past Friday.

So, I start feeling sorry for myself, start feeling this immense guilt that I somehow did something to cause the baby's heart to stop, start feeling jealousy over those people who get to experience the joy of listening to their little one's heart.  Then, I get upset at myself for even letting those thoughts enter my head.  How dare I feel jealous?  I mean, I have an AMAZING little miracle sleeping in his crib upstairs as I write this, and he is the joy of my life.  And, you know, in my heart, I want those people to be able to experience the same love that I get to feel every day from my child.  Soon, they will get to hold a little miracle in their arms, just as David and I have. I have no reason to be jealous!!  Absolutely no reason at all!!

As I have said all along, though, the sadness just comes out of nowhere sometimes.  It literally hits me like a brick wall.  It knocks the wind out of me.  It takes all my power to stop myself from hysterically crying.  It doesn't get any easier, no matter how much times has passed.

More than ever, I am trusting in the Lord, and the plan that He has for our family.  I know there is a reason for this all to happen.  I also know that those feelings for jealousy and guilt are simply the devil trying to work in my heart, trying to cause me to turn away from trusting God.  I won't let that happen.  I can't let that happen.  There is absolutely no one in the world who can understand what I am feeling, and I can only depend on the love of my Eternal Father to comfort me.  Please don't get me wrong: David has been AMAZING over the last 2.5 weeks.  He has been so supportive, loving, and caring.  And, we have appreciated all of the text messages, visitors, emails, and phone calls that we have received...more than we could ever put into words.  And, personally, I have appreciated the conversations with friends who have also lost their little ones.  They have brought me more comfort than I can express.  But, no matter how many of those conversations I have, this experience has been my own.  It's different from everyone else's, and I have to deal with all the emotions and the loss in my own way: by trusting in the Lord and depending on my relationship with him.
(I promise that there won't be many depressing blogs in the future, and I am not going to constantly bring up what happened.  Today has just been an exceptionally rough day, and I needed to get out some of what I have been feeling inside.)

Before I go, I want to quickly share a "God-thing" that has happened recently.  (I don't like to say things are coincidences because I think that God has control over every situation.  So, that's what I mean by a "God-thing.)  Anyway, a few days after the miscarriage, I knew that I wanted to do something to remember our angel baby.  I absolutely love the website Etsy.com, so I started my search there.  I found an amazing woman who makes custom remembrance jewelry, and I immediately placed my order.  On Saturday, my jewelry arrived:

The green gem is Grayson's birthstone, while the butterfly and pearl symbolize our sweet angel.  Here's the God thing: several years ago, I decided on a whim one night to get a tattoo.  A friend and I went to the store, and I searched through books and books of designs.  I must have looked through 1000 options, but my eye kept coming back to the same picture.  I had recently been through one of the most life-changing times in my entire life...I felt like I had been transformed into a new, more independent person. The tattoo I chose: a butterfly.

But, so what?  I got a butterfly tattoo, and now I have a butterfly on my necklace.  Butterflies are everywhere.  What makes that a "God-thing"?  Well, the butterfly on my foot and the butterfly on my necklace are almost identical.  It's uncanny.  Now, every time I catch a glimpse of my tattoo or my necklace, I am reminded that God has a plan for me--that He is in control of all the happenings in my life, and He has been for my entire life!  THAT'S the ultimate comfort to me.

Thank you again SO MUCH for your thoughts, prayers, emails, texts, and phone calls.  They mean so very much to David and I.  We love you all!

Daddy is funny!

The past 6 months:

6 months old!!

Wow, oh wow!  We can hardly believe it!  Our sweet baby boy is 6 months old today!

August 12, 2010

February 12, 2011
Where did the time go??

Grayson continues to grow into a big, strong boy.
At a doctor visit last week, he weighed 20lbs, 3oz.  He is in size 3 diapers, and wears 6 month to 9 month clothes (depending on the brand).  He eats 6oz bottles 5 times a day, as well as 2 servings of oatmeal, 1 veggie, and 1 fruit.
He's learning to drink water from a sippy cup, and likes to eat his NumNums, when Mommy or Daddy gives one to him.  He is at the point where EVERYTHING goes in his mouth (no matter if it is supposed to or not), so we have to really watch what we keep within his reach.

He spends his days at daycare with his new friends, and he spends his evenings being silly with us.  When he is at home, he plays with his toys or cuddles with Mommy and Daddy.  We don't really let him watch too much TV, and he doesn't really seem to be that interested in it.  He does, though, love to watch football.  I think he will like NASCAR, too, because of all the movement.  (And he better like NASCAR--he has a daddy, Uncle, Grandma, and cousin to watch all the races with!)

We have really enjoyed getting to watch the developmental steps he takes each day.  He is rolling over all the time, from front to back and back to front.  If he wants to get somewhere, he usually gets there by rolling.  He can do baby push-ups and get his legs up under him when he's lying on his tummy, but he only seems to do it when he is in his crib, trying to fall asleep.  In fact, he is all over his crib when he is supposed to be sleeping.  :)

It has been fun to watch him look for things.  Just tonight, he threw his pacifier, then looked for it, grabbed it, and stuck it in his mouth.  I know that seems like such a little thing, but it's just so amazing for us because it's something new he has learned to do!  :)  His favorite toys continue to be his exersaucer, bouncy, Leo the Lion, his laptop, his blocks, and, of course, his lovie.  He doesn't go anywhere without that lovie.

He is able to sit up on his own, and it's obvious that he is proud of being able to do so.  He loves to sit on the floor and play with his blocks.  He also likes to sit and play with Bailey.  He will grab at her, pet her, and give her kisses (and Bailey will try to lick all over his face).  He laughs and laughs while he watches the dogs.

He has learned to scream and squeal, and he does it all the time.  We think he picked this up from daycare.  He will squeal really loud, and then laugh and laugh when we acknowledge him.  He has also learned to fake cough.  And, somewhere along the line, he has learned to make a fake crying sound to get our attention.  (I know he's faking because he always smiles when he does it.  HA!)  He loves to watch Daddy beat-box, and works very hard to imitate the sounds that he hears.  As I mentioned in a previous post, he often says "HEY!" to us, and he has also started saying, "DaDa!"

We are pretty sure that Grayson is going to be a spitting image of his Daddy....in every way.  There are so many of David's mannerisms that I see Grayson starting to do.  :)  And, he smiles a sheepish grin (just like his Daddy) when he knows that he is doing something that he probably shouldn't be doing.

He still sleeps through the night, and typically sleeps 11-12 hours each night.  He has adjusted very well to having to go to bed and wake up a little earlier now that he has started daycare, and we are very relieved about that.  He is definitely a morning person, as he always smiles and laughs when we go in the room to get him.  He doesn't fall asleep as easily as we would like....but, he's not fighting it as much as we used to.

By the way, we call this Grayson's "Bledsoe Pooh" because he has a big head,
just like Grayson and his Daddy.  :)

We have noticed this month, more than any time since we have had Grayson, the number of people that comment on what a happy baby Grayson is.  Sometimes people come up to us and say, "Oh, he's so happy!" or, "He seems like such a happy baby!" while other times we can overhear them.  Grayson loves the attention, of course.  He will smile and turn his head away, trying to act shy.

David and I feel like, in some ways, the past 6 months have flown by.  Becoming parents has definitely been an adjustment for the both of us, but it is something that we wouldn't change for the world.  We love love love love love having Grayson in our lives.  We are very much looking forward to the next 6 months, and watching Grayson grow into a little boy.  We know that God has many new adventures in store for our little family!
