He's here!!!
Grayson Emmit Bledsoe made his entrance into the world on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 8:27pm. It was a looooooooooooooooooong day for Mommy and Daddy, and things didn't go exactly as planned. Thankfully, we are learning that, as parents, things rarely go exactly as planned. :)
We arrived at the hospital at 3:45am to fill out paperwork. The nurse came and took David and I back to the labor and delivery room, where I answered a bunch of health questions and got hooked up to the IV and blood pressure machine. They started the pitocin drip at 5:00am, and I was feeling great! I was having contractions, but nothing too major, and I was beginning to dilate just a little. At 8:30am, Doc came in and broke my water. At that point, I was just over 2cm dilated. I was starting to get uncomfortable, and I knew that I had a long day ahead of me, so I decided to go ahead and get the epidural process over with so I could get some more sleep. After all, I had only gotten about 10 hours of sleep in the past 3 days! :) Shortly after the epidural, I felt great.
My family came, and we laughed and visited and watched tv. I was able to sleep for a little while, and it seemed like everything was progressing along fabulously! Around lunch time, I started feeling some contractions on my left side. The nurse came in and rolled me off my back so that the epidural could have more of a chance to get to my left side. I laid that way for over an hour, and the pain just kept getting worse. Also, my right side and back kept getting number and number. I was literally at the point of not being able to move my right leg or sit up on my own because I was so numb. They gave me about 5 "updoses" of pain medicine into the epidural throughout the afternoon, but the pain on my right side just kept getting worse and worse. The doctor came in and checked me around 3:00pm, and I was at 5cm. I was so relieved to be making progress, and everyone seemed to think that it would all move along so much more quickly now!
By this time, I was feeling every strong contraction in my left side, but absolutely nothing in my right side. (And, it turned out that I had NO medicine on my left side at all...no wonder it hurt so bad!). The nurse came in, and they decided that they would adjust the epidural a little bit, to see if that would help the left side get some of the meds. They adjusted the epidural, gave me another updose of medication, and waited an hour. I was only feeling worse and worse. Finally, they said that my only other option was to get another epidural or to have a c-section. Around 7:00pm, Doc came in, and told me that I was only 6cm dilated. I was so disappointed and discouraged. We decided, though, to try the second epidural. I didn't really want anymore medication in me, but I also wanted to be able to have Grayson naturally since I had already been trying for almost 15 hours. They redid the epidural AND gave me a dose of morphine. I laid in bed and tried to relax, but the contractions were coming every 2 minutes...it was just impossible. Doc came back to check on me at 7:45pm, and I didn't even let him in the door before I screamed we were doing the surgery....I just knew that I was so exhausted that there was NO WAY I could make it through 4 more cm of dilation AND push. I just couldn't.
So, they literally whisked me off to surgery. I had to sit in the operating room while they removed the second epidural and gave me a spinal block. I laid on the table for about 10 minutes. Then Doc started to check to make sure I was numb. He poked all over my abdomen, and then he got to my left side. I STILL was not numb!!! Doc mentioned that he would give me 5 more minutes to get numb, or I was going to have to be put to sleep for the csection. I immediately started praying--I didn't want to be asleep when Grayson came!! (Not to mention that he would be in the nursery for 6 hours if I was put to sleep!) Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully, I was able to get numb, and Grayson was born!!! He weighed 6lbs 12oz, and was 20.5 inches long. (And, yes, he has lungs like his momma!)
The doctors and nurses aren't exactly sure why I had so much trouble with my left side. However, they think that Grayson was laying on a nerve in my cervix that caused it to swell (hence my slow dilation)...that swollen nerve then completely blocked my left side from getting any of the medication that they were pumping in to me. I am just so glad that Grayson is healthy. I would go through all the pain and crying and being scared all over again just to have him.
I was in recovery for just over an hour while Grayson spent some time in the nursery. FINALLY, they rolled me up to my room, and I got to hold my little boy for the first time:

We love you all, and I promise to update again soon!!!

David and I are pretty partial, but we think that Grayson is pretty darn cute.
And, I honestly can't imagine my life without! He is an amazing boy. We were able to bring him home on Saturday afternoon, and have not taken our eyes off of him since...we are so in love!!!
We love you all, and I promise to update again soon!!!

One last.....
Again, I have slacked on keeping this updated, but it's been a VERY busy couple of last weeks.
On July 25, the families of the children in the Hope Presbyterian Church special kids small group threw David, Grayson, and I a wonderful shower. These families are some of the most amazing people that I have ever been blessed to know, and the shower just blessed David and I beyond measure..both materialistically and spiritually. The very next weekend, the families of the children that I work with at the ABA Place threw us a shower, and, again, we were blessed beyond measure. David and I have had so much fun getting the nursery completed and everything set up for our little bundle of joy to arrive...to have so many people in our life that love us as much as we have is just a great feeling. Oh, and I promise to post pictures of all the showers as soon as we get back from the hospital.
This past weekend was our last weekend before we became parents. We were both really looking forward to 2 whole days of nothing to do...until we realized how much we still had to do!!! On Friday night, we finished up shopping for all the things we needed, and then had a relaxing and delicious dinner. On Saturday, we ran lots and lots of errands, and marked lots of items off our to-do list. Then, Sunday, we visited Courtney, Brad, and baby Anderson in the hospital. Courtney and Brad welcomed their little boy on Saturday afternoon, and, he sure is a cutie!! I can't wait for Anderson and Grayson to meet!! After we visited the Sartains, we ran by the mall, and then headed down to the Med to visit one of David's co-workers. Finally, finally, finally, we came home. :) It certainly wasn't the relaxing weekend we had planned on, but we had fun just the same.
Yesterday (Tuesday) was my last day of work before maternity leave. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday morning, and everything was finalized for Grayson to make his appearance sometime tomorrow! Unfortunately, I am still 1.5cm dilated and 80% effaced (like I have been for 3 weeks now), so if we were waiting for Grayson to come on his own, he might decided never to make it out! :) Anyway, we will head to the hospital EARLY tomorrow morning (3:30am!), and will have him sometime later in the day, depending on how everything goes. And, YES, we WILL have him tomorrow if it's the last thing I do...he will NOT be born on Friday the 13th!! :) Anyway, my last day of work was exhausting and bittersweet...it made everything seem so real all of the sudden......
Today, I am attempting to relax as best as I can. I have not slept AT ALL the past 2 nights, and I know that I have a big day ahead of me that is just going to be exhausting. Hopefully, I will get a nap in a some point, but we shall see. David and I are going to straighten up the house one last time, then I am going to spend some time with my fabulous friend, Mary Beth. David's family will be arriving sometime this afternoon, so it will be nice to spend some time with them. :)
I can't believe that tomorrow is the big day, and I think it's finally starting to hit me that I'm going to be a mom. I know how crazy that sounds that I am just now saying that...it's just that I KNOW that in approximately 24 hours (give or take, depending on how things go), I will be holding my baby boy in my arms!!!!!!
As always, we love you all. I promise to post pictures of Grayson Emmit as soon as possible. Oh, and, if it all works out, I will be walking at my graduation on Sunday! That means, I will officially be Dr. Esther Plank Bledsoe!! AH! It's such a huge weekend in my life...I am going to enjoy it as much as I can!

And so it begins!!
Well, we are officially on the downhill slide, folks! I had my 36 week appointment today and.........
I am starting to dilate! So far, I am only at 1cm, so we have a looooooong way to go. BUT, Dr. Dewane said that we will have our little boy in our arms on August 12, unless he decides to make his appearance a little earlier!
I absolutely cannot believe that, in 3 weeks, Grayson will be here!!!! AHHHH!!
I will update more soon, but, for now, I have lots of work to catch up on. I just wanted to let you all know the good news!
As always, we love you!!

It's been awhile....
Well, it's been several days since my last post...I guess between the relaxin time off of work and then the business that is life, I just didn't get a chance to sit down and write about everything that's been going on! So, I will try to start at the beginning....
First, vacation was great. We were able to spend some much needed time at the house doing absolutely nothing and just enjoying each others' company. I also was able to get some work done on my dissertation...which, I successfully defended on July 9!! :) That means that, on August 15, I will OFFICIALLY be Dr. Esther Bledsoe. Oh, I like the ring of that!
This picture was taken right after I rang the bell--ringing the bell is a tradition for someone who successfully defends a dissertation. It's the schools' way of letting everyone in the building know that there is a new doctor amongst them. Unfortunately, I defended in summer, so there was only one other person who came out and congratulated me. HA!
The very next day, I travelled to Jackson for Grayson's second baby shower. My wonderful girlfriends from college put everything together, and I couldn't have felt more loved than I did on that day. I was so excited to see so many wonderful friends who love Grayson so much already! We got some WONDERFUL gifts...thank you so much, everyone!!!

See, they love Grayson already!! :) And, on top of all the wonderful things we got at the shower, David's mom, sister, and grandmother bought us Grayson's highchair, and my parents bought the car seat and stroller. We are sooooooo very blessed!
The last several days have been spent working and getting as much rest as I can. We went to the doctor on Thursday for my 35 week checkup. Grayson has dropped and is all in place to make his appearance! The doctor again told me that our little boy's heartbeat is perfect, my blood pressure is perfect, and my weight is perfect...although, gaining 32lbs is a little much for me! We will go back to visit the doctor every week from here on out. Hopefully there will be progress at each visit!
This past weekend, we got A LOT done at the house. I think David and I are finally starting to feel more prepared in terms of having things that we need in place. We have the pack-n-play all set for Grayson to sleep in for the first few weeks, his clothes/blankets/towels/burp cloths are all washed and put away, the car seat is in the car, and his nursery is ALMOST done. We are still waiting on our custom-made letters that we ordered from etsy.com...I LOVE that website! Once those come in, then we will officially be all set for Grayson! Here is his almost complete room:
I think the part about the nursery that I love the most, is the rocking chair. That rocking chair is so very special, and I am so excited to have it. You see, my great grandmother, Granny Ruth, rocked every single one of her kids in that chair, as did her mother. Granny was an amazingly Godly woman (with a CRAZY large family, including at least 50 grandkids, great grandkids, and great-great grandkids), who I looked up to, and still strive to be like. She passed away over 10 years ago, but I still think about her daily. I didn't know until just a few weeks ago that she had saved this chair for me to have to rock my babies in....and, I am absolutely in awe that she wanted me to have it. I think it completes Grayson's room perfectly. :)
Finally, here is a "preggo belly pic" of Grayson at just over 35 weeks:
Only a month left to go!
We love you all!

Vacation: Day 2
The second day of my vacation began with an email from my boss, and the work didn't slow down from there. It turns out that I didn't get to relax much yesterday, as I spent most of my time emailing and answering phone calls. I also had to go to a staff meeting in the afternoon....while my husband lounged in the pool. :)
The highlight of my day definitely was getting to hang out with Sara. We didn't really do much of anything, but I love how we can do nothing and still have a blast. Thanks for the girl time, Sara!!!
Today, David and I are looking forward to doing a bunch of NOTHING. We are getting a new garage door installed this morning, and then we are going to head to Germantown to pick up a pork butt we ordered. Other than that, it's going to be a day of no plans and no commitments. Oh, we are looking forward to that!!!!
Hope you all are having a wonderful holiday weekend. We love you!

Vacation: Day 1
So, I guess the word "vacation" is a little deceiving...I didn't actually travel anywhere, but I am blessed enough to be able to take an extra long weekend from work (sort of), and I am trying to enjoy every minute of it. I only worked 3 days this week, but I feel like I worked about 12. Yesterday (Wednesday) was the absolute worst. I had some VERY important paper work that I needed to take with me to Jackson, but, being the moron I am, I left home without it. I didn't realize it until I had already gotten ALL THE WAY to Jackson. Darnit! So, I had to drive BACK to my house, pick up the paperwork, drive BACK to Jackson, work with all my clients, and drive BACK home to Memphis at the end of the day. Let's just say that I won't be forgetting anymore paperwork anytime soon.
This morning, I was actually able to sleep in, which I haven't been able to do in forever. Then, I just chilled out and was lazy until it was time to go to the doctor for another check-up. I am 33 weeks today, so it was the last appointment before I start going every week. (AH!! Grayson's almost here!!!) Anyway, again, my doctor said that everything is perfect...thank goodness! And, the other great news is that Grayson is no longer breech!!! YAY Grayson!!! There is still a chance that he will flip back over, but the doctor seemed encouraged that he was head down for now. Whew! What a relief! I feel totally and completely unprepared in terms of having things ready for him. BUT, I am blessed to have a few more showers in the weeks ahead, so I figure I will be able to have a better grasp on things after I talk to my friends about what I need to get and all that good stuff. Also, my friend, Amber, has been so thoughtful to lend Grayson some items...THANK YOU, Amber!!!! We owe you big time!!
The rest of the day, I relaxed some more, and then David and I did some shopping and went out to eat. I know that a lot of people say that they married their best friend, but David truly is the best friend I have ever had. We had SO much fun tonight just spending time with each other. :) And, I think Grayson enjoyed the fact that we ate at Hooter's for dinner...he was kicking, squirming, and punching the whole time! HA!
I do want to make sure I note that we are soooooooooooooooo very thankful that David's mom got good news today that we have been praying for. I don't want to go into too much detail (just because it's personal), but I will say that a situation that could have been devastating has turned out to be wonderful! Gammie, we are so so so so grateful that you are okay!!!! :)
David is working on the pool right now (we needed to add some chlorine and stuff to it), so hopefully I will be able to spend some time in it this weekend. I absolutely cannot wait, especially since I haven't been able to enjoy it the past couple of weeks, like I had hoped. If all goes well, I can take a dip tomorrow and get some much needed sun. YAY for vacation!!! :)

Happy Father's Day, David!!
Happy Father's Day to my amazingly wonderful husband, David!! Although Grayson hasn't yet made his appearance, I have been able to (and continue every day to) see what a fantastic daddy David is going to be. Grayson and I are so blessed!!! We love you!!
David had to work this weekend, so he didn't get to make the trip to Humboldt to celebrate Father's Day with my family. Instead, my brother and I drove up to my parents' house and spent the afternoon. We gave Dad a firepit (which, after seeing, now I really want one!), and then cooked-out. We also rode around on all of Dad's "toys," including his mule and motorbike.
It was a lot of fun. It was HOT, but still a lot of fun.
Speaking of hot, this heat is just AWFUL!
The heat index has been above 100 degrees all week long, and it has been getting more and more difficult to stay comfortable. I am in and out of my car so much during the week that, just as soon as I get cooled off, it's time to get back out in the heat again! Today, I spent more time outside than I had all week, so I am hoping that helped to acclimate me a little better. We shall see, I suppose. I wish every day that we will have rain...at least a little shower! So far, no real rain, and no real relief. UNTIL......

(Ignore what I am wearing in this picture. :) I had put on a pair of David's shorts because they were just SOOOOOO comfy! HA!)
That's right! David surprised me (and Grayson!) by purchasing a pool!!! Oh, I am so excited. When we went to Target to get it, I just couldn't stop smiling. I can't wait to just go "jump in" whenever I want to!!!! YAY! I am so so so so so so happy!!!! :) We (well, David) is still working on getting it set up...but, I am still excited because I know I'll be able to take a dip as soon as I get home from work tomorrow!! :)
(Cordi did a GREAT job of supervising Mommy and Daddy!!)
Bailey and I just came back in a few minutes ago...she was WORN OUT!
I hope all the dads in my life had a wonderful Father's Day!!! We love you!
P.S. I have been asked to keep the "preggo pics" coming...I guess my family and friends that don't see me every day are interested (for whatever reason) in watching me get fat! HA!
Anyway, here is a picture taken today. I am 31 weeks and a few days....so 31 weeks. (And, again, please forgive how I look. I was exhausted from being in the heat all day and getting ready to lay down for a nap!!)
